Frequently asked questions

Can you help me capture my surprise proposal?

Yes, I have extensive experience in surprise proposal photoshoots. I will help you with location, timing, logistics, and full instructions for a smooth experience. After the proposal, I capture some posed and some candid photos including the ring.

What time of the day is best for photoshoot?

Golden hour (2-3 hours close to sunrise or sunset) is best. Early morning or later afternoon, cloudy or slight rainy days are good for photoshoot. Harsh midday sun is not ideal. But as an experienced photographer, I shoot throughout the day, so you don’t need to worry. The earliest shoot possible is 6am-7pm (winter 7am-4pm). Night shoot is also available at dusk.

How long does it to get the photos? How do I get my photos?

I deliver within 24 hours. During cherry blossom season, it may take longer, but no more than 3 days. You will receieve edited high resolution photos via Google Drive.

What are the best locations for a photoshoot?

Kyoto: Gion/Higashiyama historic town has a variety of beautiful spots: old streets, Japanese garden, giant Buddha statue, 600-year old pagoda, relatively quiet bamboo path etc. Fushimi Inari is also iconic, but recommended for early morning to avoid the huge crowds later on. Arashiyama Bamboo forest is also a good location but a bit far from town. I know many amazing locations so I will be happy to curate a perfect itinerary for longer photoshoots. Outside Kyoto: Osaka Castle (daytime), Dotombori (nighttime). Nara Deer Park. Tokyo and Fuji etc.

What is your cancellation policy?

14 days before the shoot, for a full refund.

What if the weather is not ideal?

I shoot in any weather. I prefer moderately rainy and cloudy days for crisp and contrasty photos. However, if the weather makes it hard (storm or strong showers) and no alternative time/day is possible, refund is given.

What colour outfit should we wear?

White or blue is the best colour in any background. Also bright but light coloured clothes are also good so you stand out from the background. I prefer cooler colours like white, beige, blue, green, purple etc. Warm colours (dark red, dark brown, dark orange etc.) are not good especially on a sunny day.

I do not know how to pose, can you help?

Of course, I give you clear instructions. But also I shoot candid photos too to capture your natural side as well.

Can you help me with kimono booking?

Yes. Tell me how many people (males, females, boys and girls). I will send you a google maps pin. You show up at the shop at least 60 minutes before the photoshoot, choose kimono from a selection based on price, get dressed and pay to the shop directly. Dressing takes about 60 minutes for a small group (1-4 people). Larger groups (5-10 people), 90-120 minutes. A regular kimono is around 5,000-7,000 JPY, more elaborate kimonos are 15,000 JPY or more. Children kimonos are 4,000 JPY. Makeup and hair styling also available at the shop. Kimono shops are open 9am-7pm, so the earliest kimono shoot is from 10am and latest 7pm.
